Mosaic
Art Splendor
Visit the
Church of San Pietro in Vincoli to be captured by the powerful statue of
Moses by Michelangelo (photo). After a short walk visit the
Basilica
of St. Pudentiana with its 4th c. splendid golden
mosaics in its apse. Then another short walk leads to the
Basilica of St. Praxedes with the Chapel of St. Zeno and the
apse are decorated with Byzantine style mosaics of 9th c.
Last visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major where in the nave
and in the apse are stupendous mosaics.

Hidden Rome
Discover underground
1st 2nd and 3rd centuries Roman
houses with impressively preserved pagan and Christian frescoes, hidden under the churches of
St. John and Paul
and of St. Clement (photo of apse mosaic). In the latter
part of the house was transformed in a mithraic
temple. Then visit the archaeological ruins of the
magnificent Domus
Aurea, emperor Nero's Golden House with frescoes and plaster bas
reliefs. See the Octagonal Hall which must have been
splendid.
