 Detailed itinerary description

Conducted by a qualified tour guide, skipping the long ticket lines, visit the Colosseum, largest amphitheater in the Empire, where 50.000 spectators could seat on marble tiers; cruel bloody gladiators fights, hunts of wild animals and for a short time naval battles lasted for almost 500 years. It could still be standing intact if the Romans wouldn't have used it as a 'quarry'. Many Roman palaces and churches were built with its marble.

See the Arch of Constantine and the ruins of the Temple of Venus and Roma, largest rectangular temple of Rome.

Climb the Via Sacra, main street where religious and triumphal processions took place, up to the Arch of Titus, arch commemorating the pax romana of Judea, with relieves describing Titus' triumph.

Enter the Roman Forum for a detailed visit of what has been the first public center of Rome: religious, business, judicial, political and civic center. Walk along the Via Sacra, passing nearby the Temple of Divus Romulus.

See the remains of several  Temples (Dioscuri, Vesta, Antoninus and Faustina, Saturn, etc.).

Find out where were sited the Umbilicus Urbis (topographical center of ancient city), the Miliarium Aureum (column where the distances to other important capitals of the Roman Empire could be read).

See the Forum main square (120 x 60 m.), paved in travertine marble, surrounded by the remains of Julius Caesar's Temple (Julius Caesar's body was cremated where the temple was built), the Basilica Aemilia (sort of stock exchange), the Basilica Julia (justice court) and the Rostra (oratory podium).

Proceed visiting the House of Vestals, virgin priestesses, the Temple of Vesta.

Look up to the monumental Arch of Septimus Severus and enter the Curia, seat of ancient Roman Senate.

Climbing up the Capitoline Hill, see the ruins of the Imperial Forums, the historical Trajan's Column and Trajan's Markets.

Have a breathtaking panoramic view of Roman Forum ruins.

Visit the Campidoglio Square, designed by Michelangelo, seeing the steep staircase leading to the splendid Basilica of St. Mary in Aracoeli. The magnificent square is surrounded by the Senatorio Palace, housing the City Hall, the Capitolino and Conservatori Palaces, housing the very important collection of the Capitoline Museums. In its center is a copy of Marcus Aurelius' bronze statue.

Step down the 'cordonata', the ramp designed by Michelangelo, see the ruins of a five-storied apartment house built in the 2nd c. A.D.

End the tour with the imposing Altar to the Fatherland in Piazza Venezia, center of town.

Please ask for our reasonable rates by e-mail or contact us by fax mentioning date, number of persons, tour code and name.
