Detailed itinerary description nerary description Conducted by a qualified tour guide, start the visit from the Farnese Square with its fountains and its imposing Palace, outstanding Renaissance architectural jewel. Cross Campo dei Fiori Square, known for its daily market and as meeting place for youth at night, and the Piazza della Cancelleria, where is the Cancelleria Palace, another amongst the most imposing Renaissance palaces of Rome. Visit the outstanding baroque Navona Square with two magnificent Bernini's fountains of the Moor and of the Four Rivers (depicting rivers Nile, Ganges, Danube and Plate River) and the one called of Calderari. Sidewalk artists and outdoor cafés. See the Madama Palace, present seat of Italian Senate, where lived the Medicis. Visit the Pantheon the huge temple of all the gods, unbelievably well preserved after 18 centuries. See Piazza di Pietra (with the archaeological remains of the Hadrianeum, 2nd c. A.D. temple dedicated to the emperor Hadrian), the Montecitorio Palace (seat of the House of Representatives) and Montecitorio Square (Psammatic II's Egyptian Obelisk). See Piazza Colonna (with the 2nd c. A.D. Column of Marcus Aurelius (father of the emperor-gladiator Commodus) documenting the most important war episodes and victory over rebellious Germanic tribes, the Chigi Palace (seat of the Italian Government). Then stroll through Via Condotti (most exclusive shops in the center and the most tempting ones) and the Spanish Square to drool over their appealing shop windows. At the end of Via Condotti visit one of the most characteristic architectural highlights of Rome, the Spanish Square and the renowned Spanish Steps. Bernini's Fountain 'la Barcaccia' embellishes the square, which is named after the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See. In front of it is the Column of the Immaculate. St. Mary's statue on its top is surrounded by roses settled by the Firemen on the 8th December. Leaving the square arrive to the Trevi Fountain. Many stories have been told about this magnificent fountain and it has been the set for many unforgettable and important pictures. Any foreigner, who wants to be sure to return to Rome, has to toss a cent backwards in the basin. A second cent thrown in the fountain assures a good marriage and a third cent guarantees an immediate divorce! Beautiful legends for the ones believing them!
